Africa is represented once again at the International Circus Festival. New number from Colombia also announced.
The multicultural nature of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina” is further underlined with the two new numbers for the twelfth edition announced today.
So far this year, the production office of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina” has received over 350 applications from artists wishing to participate in the upcoming 12th edition. Requests have arrived from all five continents, and cover the entire panorama of circus disciplines. The selection committee, whose job it is to evaluate the artistic and technical qualities of each artist, today announce two more numbers that have been officially added to the list of participating acts for the twelfth edition of the Festival. The two acts that have been successful in this first difficult selection come from America and Africa, and represent two very different disciplines: Contortionism  and the ‘Globe of Death’.

The Republic of South Africa is represented by twenty-year-old Lunga in a contortionism  number. Born in Johannesburg, this African artist began her artistic career at the age of ten and has, during the last six years spent in the United States, had ample opportunity to develop her artistic talents, gaining significant placings at a number of International Festivals. The surprising flexibility of Lunga was evident from a very young age when, even while sleeping, her body would assume such curious positions that she was later the subject of clinical tests and X-rays. Her unique natural flexibility has earned her the nickname ‘Snake-Girl’.





The Globe of Speed troupe consists of eight fearless motorcyclists, all Colombian, with ages ranging from 22 to 33. During their breathtaking number, these eight young motorcyclists and their bikes are enclosed within a huge 5.8 metre diameter spherical steel cage, and reach speeds of 60km/h while performing daredevil acrobatics. The deafening rumble of the motorcycles’ engines accompanies an amazing performance in which even the smallest  mistake could prove dangerous.

Le concours est ouvert aussi bien aux photographes professionnels qu'aux
amateurs, aux amis du cirque et aux passionnés de photos. Cette année, le
concours sera centré sur la photo couleur et demandera aux participants
d'envoyer des photos qui répondent à la question : « Qu'est-ce qui fait
d'un cirque un cirque ? ». Nous vous informerons des résultats le plus
rapidement possible.

12ème FESTIVAL DE LATINA/ CIRCUS EXPO

Introducing "Circus Expo"
 
"Circus Expo" is the name of a new addition to the list of events planned for the upcoming 12th International Circus Festival "City of Latina", which will take place between 14th -18th October 2010.
 
"Circus Expo" is a new initiative among the cultural events planned to coincide with the International Circus Festival at Latina. The purpose of this new project is to showcase various artworks and media that have as their inspiration the world of the circus, in the hope of broadening the appeal of the International Circus Festival to an even wider public. 
"Circus Expo" will consist of a large tented structure with an internal exhibition space of 1000 sqm, located right next to the site of the International Circus Festival "City of Latina". 
Within this exposition area, artists from varying fields will have the opportunity to exhibit their circus-themed creations. Photographic collections, paintings, sculptures, models and miniatures will be particularly welcome, along with other arts and crafts which evoke, represent or are inspired by the world of the circus. 
Participation will be free: there will be no cost to artists and presenters for exhibiting, and nor will there be any payment to them for their presence. The exhibition will be set up on Wednesday, 13th October, and officially opened on Thursday 14th October. It will close on the last day of the Festival: Monday, October 18th.

Please note that requests arriving after the above date will not be taken into consideration. 
The production team of the International Circus Festival "City of Latina" will contact each candidate regarding logistics.
