Press Release n° 5 – April 28th 2011
International relations, worldwide casting and intercultural interest foremost in the trips undertaken by the staff of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina”
The staff of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina” has recently completed the first part of a European and Asian tour which included attendance at important events in the worldwide calendar of Circus arts. The numerous journeys undertaken between September 2010 and March 2011 have achieved three objectives: to reinforce international relations between the leading exponents of the sector; to see the top numbers in competition and to extend invitations to participate in the Festival at Latina; to concentrate attention on the artistic variances of countries around the world in order to increase intercultural variety in the format of the Festival and Circus productions.
Mirella Iuliano, Honorary President of the “Giulio Montico” Cultural Association, was a member of the jury at the fifth edition of the Circus Festival held at Valencia (Spain).
Fabio Montico, Director of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina”, attended a significant number of Festivals: last September he gave a talk regarding his role as director of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina” at the Circus Festival held at St. Petersburg (Russia); in October Montico was a member of the jury at the International Circus Festival at Wuhan (China), where he made an award to an outstanding Mongolian acrobatic troupe; in November, at Ekaterinburg (Russia) he attended the only world Circus Festival entirely dedicated to clowns; in January Fabio Montico was at Massy (France), where he attended the International Circus Festival, and also established an understanding with the renowned Bouglione Circus family, with the aim of future professional collaboration between them and the Festival at Latina; in Paris (France), also in January, he attended the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, where he saw several innovative acts, one of which might participate in the next edition of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina”, with slight adjustments to make it suitable for the Festival which, although open to innovation, maintains its loyalty to the traditional Circus; in February Fabio Montico was in Albacete (Spain), where he made new connections with the local Circus Festival, which is run by the City Council and Regional Government. Montico awarded a plaque and an invitation to take part in the Festival at Latina to crossbowmen The Jasters; a further award was made to the Cuban duo Leosvel and Diosman at the International Circus Festival of Izhevsk (Udmurtia), which took place in March and at which Fabio Montico was a member of the jury.
The staff of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina” attended the European Youth Circus Artistik Festival at Wiesbaden (Germany), where Rocco Liguori, member of the jury representing the “Giulio Montico” Cultural Association, gave an award to the Spanish tightrope artist Kevin Rossi; the staff was also present at the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo, progenitor of every Circus Festival in the world, famous not only for its atmosphere but also for the consistent high quality of the acts which compete there, and at the astonishing show put on by Weltweihnachtscircus in Stuttgart (Germany), which contained performances by many artists who had already competed in past editions of the International Circus Festival “City of Latina”.
